Sustainable living and creativity go hand in hand in the Handmade Life. Our property thrives with raised garden beds filled with herbs, tomatoes, turmeric, elderberry, coffee, ginger, horseradish, watermelon, sweet potatoes and loofah sponges. We also have a hen house with fresh eggs. This abundance reminds us daily that nurturing life and nurturing art are deeply connected practices. We are actively working towards permaculture and a food forest. We have planted a large variety fruit trees including, Mango, Avocado, Lychee, Cassava, Long Gon, JackFruit, Banana, Tea plants, Pomgranate, Dragon Fruit, Loquat, Lemon and Passion Fruit. We also enjoy many tropical flowers, including Crown flowers, Bat plants, Canna, Gardenia, Zinnias, Marigolds, Bromeliads, Orchids, Gardenias, Tahitian Gardenias, Mexican Sunflower, Jasmine, Plumeria, Heliconia, Almond bush, Wisteria, Clematis, and a Cannonball tree twisted.
Gardening teaches patience, observation, and reverence for natural cycles—lessons we carry into our studio. Each vegetable harvested or seed sown mirrors the delicate care we take when crafting jewelry. Slow living is not just a lifestyle; it is an essential framework for meaningful creation.
The tactile experience of tending the land feeds creativity in tangible ways. The texture of soil, the scent of herbs, and the rhythm of watering and harvesting inform design, color choices, and form. The Handmade Life is enriched by the interplay between growing food and creating art, where inspiration springs from the earth beneath our feet.
Students and visitors to our workshops often remark on this seamless integration. They witness firsthand how living from the land strengthens both technical skills and creative intuition. By grounding ourselves in nature, we create a holistic practice that nourishes creativity and supports sustainable, mindful living.
