Why Learn Lost Wax Casting?
Lost wax casting is an ancient technique that’s been used by artists and makers for thousands of years—and for good reason. It’s a beautifully hands-on process that allows you to turn a simple wax model into a lasting piece of metal art. At Learn Lost Wax Casting, we’re passionate about keeping this tradition alive and making it accessible for creatives of all levels.
Join us for a fast-paced, fun, and inspiring 3-day workshop where you’ll learn every step of the lost wax casting process—from wax to wearable art.
What You’ll Learn:
Over the course of this immersive weekend, you’ll:
-
Carve and sculpt your own wax model using professional hand tools and an electric wax pen
-
Learn how to prepare your model for casting, including investing and kiln burnout
-
Cast your piece in either Sterling Silver or Gold Bronze using a centrifugal casting machine
-
Polish, finish, and patina your final piece to your personal style
Workshop Schedule:
Friday:
Watch and learn as Instructor Brad walks you through the entire casting process—from wax to finished metal. This day gives you a complete overview of the tools, materials, and steps involved.
Saturday Morning:
Design and carve your own wax model, or modify one of our pre-made wax blanks. We provide all the hand tools and guidance you’ll need. Once your design is complete, we’ll invest your model in a casting flask.
Saturday Afternoon:
While your flask is burning out in the kiln, we’ll enjoy a light lunch and an open creative discussion about the casting process. After burnout, each student will cast their own piece (with instructor support) in their choice of Sterling Silver or Gold Bronze. Then we’ll begin cleaning and polishing your castings.
Sunday:
Wrap up the weekend with detailed finishing work—polishing, texturing, and patina (if desired). You’ll walk away with your own handcrafted metal ring, designed and cast by you.
What’s Included:
-
One wax blank per student – you will be able to pick a wax blank to embelish or we can 3D print something for you for an additional cost. We do not recommend stone setting for this class for beginners.
-
Use of all carving tools, casting equipment, and studio materials
-
Choice of Sterling Silver or Gold Bronze for your final casting
-
Expert instruction and hands-on guidance every step of the way
